みなさんもそれぞれ趣味をお持ちだと思いますが、私もいくつか趣味があります。

海外旅行計画

そのひとつが旅行に行くことです。国内旅行ももちろん好きですが、今回はいつ行けるかは分かりませんが、海外旅行の計画を立ててみることにしました。

なぜいつ行けるかもわからない旅の計画を立てるのか？

計画を立てるだけでも幸せな気持ちになれるからです。あまり外出もできず、完全に去年までとは生活が違ってしまい、悲しくなったり不安になることもあります。そんな時だからこそ楽しい旅の計画をたて、気分を上げたいと思います。

旅の計画をする時、みなさんは何から始めますか？

私はいつもなら、行きたい場所をいくつかピックアップし、安い航空券が出ていないか探す所から始めます。ですが今回は、航空券探しはひとまずおいておきます。

今回の旅の目的地は、ワインカントリーとも呼ばれている、アメリカのカリフォルニア州にあるナパバレー（Napa Valley) にします。

ワインカントリー

何年も前からナパに行きたいと思っていましたが、子ども達と一緒に旅行をしても、子ども達は楽しめないと思いあきらめていました。

私はワインが好きです。ワインを飲み始めたのは、アメリカに住んでいた21歳の頃でした。飲み始めたきっかけは、レストランに行くととにかくアメリカの人はワインを飲んでいる人が多いのです。

そんなにおいしいのかな？と思いレストランやバーで試してみたり、友達や知り合いがおいしいワインを教えてくれたり、男性がワインをプレゼントしてくれたり（はい、当時はモテました　笑）で、ワインを飲む機会が多かったのです。

私の知り合いは、フランスやイタリア産のワインというよりは、カリフォルニアワインを飲む人が多く、ナパで作られたワインもとてもなじみがありました。

ナパバレー　Napa Valley

カリフォルニア州はアメリカのワインの生産地で有名ですが、その中でも、ナパバレーは最高品質のワインを生産するエリアとして知られています。

日中は太陽の光がたっぷりと降り注ぎ、夜間は気温がかなり下がるナパバレーの気候がワイン作りにぴったりなのです。

何百軒ものワイナリーがあり、様々な種類のブドウが栽培されているので、自分好みのワインがきっと見つかると思います。自分好みのワインを見つける旅・・・　顔がにやけて来ます　笑。

1976年の試飲会

1976年にパリで行われたブラインドテイスティングの試飲会でワイン大国のフランスを押さえ、ナパバレーで生産されたワインがトップに選ばれました。このことがきっかけになり、現在では世界でも有名なワインの産地になりました。

サンフランシスコ→ナパバレー

ナパに行くには、まず中部国際空港からサンフランシスコに行きます、色々な航空会社があり、経由地も様々ですが、先ほども言った通り、今回は航空券探しはとばします。

サンフランシスコに着いたら、私はまず絶対にワイントレイン（Napa Valley Wine Train)に乗りたいです。

サンフランシスコから、フェリーやシャトルバスを使ってワイントレインの駅まで行き、そこから列車に乗り時速30㎞でゆっくりと景色を楽しみながらランチやディナーを味わうことができます。

想像しただけでワクワクが止まりません　笑。

ワイナリーめぐり

ナパでは、ツアーを利用してワイナリー巡りをするのが手軽だそうですが、ツアーだと主催会社が訪れるワイナリーを決めるので、私は自分で選んだワイナリーをまわりたいですし、路線バスやタクシーを利用してワイナリー巡りをしたいと思います。

個人で巡れば、ゆっくりと寄り道もできますしね。

不思議なのは、ナパではレンタカーを利用してまわるのが効率的といくつかのガイドブックなどに書いてあるのですが、テイスティングと言えど、ワインを飲んでしまうのにどういうことでしょう　笑？　レンタカーはやめた方が良さそうです。

訪れたいワイナリーはたくさんありますが、今回は私が絶対に行ってみたいワイナリーを二つご紹介します。

ウィ・サットゥイ　ワイナリー

ウィ・サットゥイ　ワイナリー（V.Sattui Winery)は、ナパバレーの中でもオープンな雰囲気で、活気があり、食べ物も気軽に購入できるフードマーケット風なワイナリーで、チーズやハム、パン、サラダ、サンドウィッチなどが売っているそうです。

こちらは、比較的安価なワインから高価な物まで幅広いワインを取り揃えているそうで、私でもあまり料金を心配することなく楽しめそうです。

生い茂った木々の中にあり、森の中に迷い込んだかのような空間で、美味しい食べ物と好きなワインを買ってピクニックをして楽しむことができるなんて最高ですね。テイスティング料も20ドルで５種類のワインを試すことができます。

お土産もそろっていて、エコバッグやコースター、ナパの石鹸なども買えるそうなので、本当に楽しみです。

ドメーヌ・カーネロス・ワイナリー

ドメーヌ・カーネロス・ワイナリー（Domaine Canerous Winery）は、写真を見て一目ぼれでした。

本当に建物も景色もステキ過ぎです。お城のような建物の周りは、辺り一面ぶどう畑で、こんなステキな空間でワインが飲めるなんて信じられないです。

こちらは、シャンパン製法によるスパークリングワインとピノ・ノワールを生産しているそうです。

室内もありますが、外のパティオでカリフォルニアの青い空の下でぶどう畑を見ながらテイスティングができるそうです。おいしいワインがより一層おいしく感じること間違いなしですね。

こちらのワイナリーもワインと一緒に、チーズやスモークサーモン、キャビアなども注文できるそうです。

高級な雰囲気で、全体的にお値段は高めだそうですが、他で節約すれば大丈夫でしょう。

おいしいワインと食事を単能した後は、素敵な宿に泊まりたいですよね。必ずしも高級なホテルでなくても良く、日本では体験出来ないような雰囲気の宿に私は泊まりたいです。

ホテル

ランチョケイマス

一つ目の滞在してみたいホテルは、ランチョケイマス（Rancho Caymus Inn）です。

ナパバレーのほぼ中心部に位置していて、どこに行くにも大変便利なロケーションです。

家族経営の大き過ぎないホテルで、居心地の良い家庭的な感じがお好きな方ならきっと素敵な時間を過ごせると思います。

ワインの試飲もできますし、季節によってはプールに入ることもでき、楽しみなことがたくさんありそうです。

オーベルジュ・デュ・ソレイユ・アン・オーベルジュ・リゾート

二つ目は、オーベルジュ・デュ・ソレイユ・アン・オーベルジュ・リゾートです。

こちらはザ・高級ホテルです。泊まることができるかどうかは別として訪れてみたいホテルです。

ホテル内の有名なレストランでは地元の食材を使った地中海風のカリフォルニア料理が楽しめ、プールサイドでドリンクや軽食がいただけます。

テニスコートやギフトショップもあり、一日中ホテルでゆっくり時間が過ごせそうですね。

あー　行ってみたい　笑。

ワインカントリーはスパが有名で、上記の二つのホテルの中にももちろんありますが、とにかくたくさんのスパがあるそうです。

ため息がでるような素晴らしい景色を見ながらワインを飲んで、おいしい料理を食べて、スパでゆっくりくつろぐ、本当になんて最高なんでしょう。

気分はすっかりすぐにでもナパに行く気分になってきました。

ワイナリー巡りはもちろんですが、ナパバレーでは、野生動物の生息エリアなど自然をたっぷり楽しめるサイクリングコースやハイキングコース、気球体験、乗馬、ゴルフなどその他たくさんのアクティビティを楽しむ事ができます。

子供たちと一緒にいっても楽しめそうだな　と考えが変わってきました　笑。

だから旅っておもしろい

私は旅行に行くとき、あまり全ての予定を決めて行かないことにしています。

現地で素晴らしい場所や、おいしい食べ物に出会うためには、現地の人たちに聞くのが一番だと思っています。

もしかしたら旅行ガイドにはのっていない素敵な場所があるかもしれない。いやきっとあるでしょう。

せっかく旅に出たのなら、現地の人たちとのコミュニケーションは絶対にたくさんとりたいです。

それが私にとって旅の一番の魅力です。みなさんはどうですか？

今回は少しですがアメリカのカリフォルニアにあるナパバレーについて書かせていただきましたが、いつか実際にナパに行った旅行体験記を書きたいです。

安心して旅行ができる、そんな日が一日でもはやく来ると良いですね。

ここクラシマーケットは、2019年にワインテイスティングを開催しました。

参加して下さった方々は、みなさんお知り合いだったわけではなく、この会で初めて出会った方々もいました。

共通の趣味であるワインをいただきながら、クラシマーケットのスタッフもみなさんといっしょに素敵な時間を過ごすことができました。

I can’t go on a trip abroad now! In times like this, I want to plan my next trip – Wine Country!

I’m sure you all have your own hobbies, and I have a few of my own.

One of them is going on trips. Of course I like to travel within Japan, but this time I decided to plan a trip overseas, although I am not sure when I will be able to go.

Why do I plan a trip when I don’t even know when I can go?

Because just making plans makes me feel happy. I can’t go out much, and my life is completely different from last year, which makes me sad and anxious at times. In times like this, I would like to plan a fun trip to lift my spirits.

When you plan a trip, where do you start?

I usually start by picking up a few places I want to go and looking for cheap air tickets. But this time, I’m going to leave the airfare search behind for now.

The destination for this trip is Napa Valley, also known as wine country, in California, USA.

I have always wanted to go to Napa Valley for years, but I had given up on the idea of traveling there with my children because I thought kids would not enjoy it.

I love wine. I started drinking wine when I was 21 years old, living in the United States. The reason why I started drinking wine was because when I went to restaurants, many American people were drinking wine.

I wondered if it was that good. My friends and acquaintances would tell me about good wine, and men would give me wine as gifts (yes, I was popular at the time lol), so I had many opportunities to drink wine.

Many of my acquaintances drank California wines rather than French or Italian wines, and I was also very familiar with wines made in Napa.

Napa Valley

California is famous for the wine that it produces in the U.S. Napa Valley is known as the area that produces the highest quality wines.

The climate of Napa Valley, with plenty of sunshine during the day and much cooler temperatures at night, is perfect for wine making.

With hundreds of wineries and a wide variety of grapes, you are sure to find a wine that you like. The journey to find the wine of my choice… I can’t help but smile.

In 1976, at a blind tasting held in Paris, the wines produced in Napa Valley were chosen as the top wines over those produced in France, a wine powerhouse. This led to Napa Valley becoming one of the most famous wine regions in the world today.

To get to Napa, I will first fly from Chubu International Airport to San Francisco. There are various airlines and transit points, but as I mentioned earlier, I will skip the airfare search this time.

When I arrive in San Francisco, I definitely want to take the Napa Valley Wine Train.

From San Francisco, you can take a ferry or shuttle bus to the Wine Train station, and from there you can take the train at 30 km/h and enjoy lunch or dinner while slowly enjoying the scenery.

I can’t stop the excitement just thinking about it.

I heard that it is easy to tour the wineries in Napa, but the tour organizer decides which wineries to visit. I prefer to visit the wineries of my own choice and take a bus or cab to the wineries.

If I go around on my own, I can take my time and make side trips.

I’ve read in some guidebooks that renting a car is the most efficient way to get around Napa, but what does that mean!? People enjoy tasting wine, but they also drink it! I think it would be better not to rent a car and drive.

There are many wineries I would like to visit, but this time I will introduce two wineries that I would definitely like to visit.

V.Sattui Winery is one of the most open, lively, and food market-like wineries in Napa Valley, selling cheese, ham, bread, salads, and sandwiches.

I heard that they have a wide range of wines here, from relatively inexpensive to expensive, and even I can enjoy them without worrying too much about the price.

Located in the midst of lush trees, it’s great to be able to buy some good food and your favorite wine and enjoy a picnic in a space that feels like you’ve wandered into a forest. There is also a tasting fee of $20, which allows you to try five different wines.

Domaine Canerous Winery was my first choice when I saw the photos.

The building and the scenery are really too beautiful. The castle-like building is surrounded by vineyards all around, and I couldn’t believe that I could drink wine in such a beautiful space.

They produce sparkling wine and Pinot Noir using the Champagne method.

They have an indoor tasting room, but you can also go outside on the patio and enjoy the tasting while looking at the vineyards under the blue California sky. I’m sure you’ll find the delicious wines even more delicious.

This winery also offers cheese, smoked salmon, caviar, and other items that can be ordered along with the wine.

The atmosphere is luxurious and the overall price is said to be high, but if I save money elsewhere, I should be fine.

After enjoying delicious wine and food, I would like to stay at a nice inn. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a luxury hotel, but I would like to stay at an inn with an atmosphere that I can’t experience in Japan.

The first hotel I would like to stay at is the Rancho Caymus Inn.

It is located almost in the center of Napa Valley and is very convenient to go anywhere.

It’s a family-run hotel that’s not too big, and if you like a cozy, homey feel, you’ll have a great time.

You can do wine tasting, and depending on the season, you can even take a dip in the pool, so there will be plenty to look forward to.

The second is the Auberge du Soleil en Auberge Resort.

This is the luxury hotel! I would like to visit this hotel whether I can stay the night or not.

The hotel’s famous restaurant serves Mediterranean-style California cuisine using local ingredients, and you can enjoy drinks and snacks by the pool.

There are also tennis courts and a gift store, so you can spend all day relaxing at the hotel.

Oh, I want to go there! lol.

Wine Country is famous for its spas, and of course there are some in the two hotels mentioned above, but I heard that there are many spas anyway.

Drinking wine, eating delicious food, and relaxing at the spa while looking at the breathtaking scenery, how wonderful is that?

Now I’m in the mood to go to Napa right away.

In addition to visiting wineries, Napa Valley offers many other activities such as biking and hiking trails, ballooning, horseback riding, golfing, and many other activities that allow you to enjoy nature and wildlife habitats.

I’ve changed my mind about how much fun I can have with my kids.

When I go on a trip, I try not to have everything planned out.

I believe that the best way to find great places and delicious food is to ask the locals.

Maybe there are some great places that are not listed in the travel guides. I’m sure there are.

If I am going to travel, I definitely want to communicate with the local people a lot.

That is the best part of traveling for me. What do you think?

This time, I wrote a little bit about Napa Valley in California in the U.S. where I have never been to before. I hope to write about my actual trip to Napa someday.

I hope the day will come soon when I can travel there with peace of mind.
